ThoughtWorks, a global software consultancy, has been named the Top Company for Women Technologists 2018 in the category of under 1,000 technical employees by AnitaB.org, a nonprofit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing. This is ThoughtWorks’ third consecutive year receiving the honor, marking another milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to diversifying tech and building a more equitable and inclusive future for all technologists. The benchmarking scheme identifies key trends around the equity of women in the workforce. Their report cash flow includes findings from data collected from participating companies for the period of March 31, 2019, through March 31, 2020. Top Companies for Women Technologists is a national benchmarking program that identifies key inclusivity trends, looks specifically at technical employees and awards companies that are making the most progress toward equity. This year’s report surveyed 51 companies with more than 500,000 technologists. AnitaB.org recognized ADP for making the most progress toward the equity of women among companies with large technical workforces.

Similar types of blue-chip companies helped push the FTSE 100 to close in positive territory, though gains were tempered by miners which mostly fell after China’s commodity price warnings. Meanwhile, stocks globally struggled for momentum as investors awaited key US inflation readings for guidance on monetary policy. London’s benchmark FTSE 100 edged up 33.54 points to close at 7,051.59 Catering company Compass Group led the charge, up by 43p at £15.82. Gambling firms Entain and Flutter Entertainment also finished in the top 10, gaining 35.5p to £16.14 and 270p to £13.20 respectively. They were followed by hotel owners Intercontinental Hotels Group and Whitbread, which rose 98p to £49.22 and 59p to £31.50, respectively. Heavyweight oil stocks also performed well as oil prices extended Friday’s rally and climbed higher after Iran said that gaps remain in negotiations aimed at reaching a deal to end US sanctions on its crude.

Systers is the largest email community of technical women in computing in the world and predates AnitaB.org, having been founded in 1987 by Anita Borg. Systers provides a private and gender exclusive space for women in computing to ask personal and technical questions.

For the year 2020, 76.5% of companies gave 12+ weeks of caregiver leave to mothers (only 31.4% did so to mothers and partners), 70.6% of companies had a pay equity policy, and 74.5% offered flextime. Those that did provide flextime had higher promotion rates for women and more representation of women overall. Companies with formal leadership development programs showed a higher representation of Black and Latinx tech women, while those offering diversity and inclusion training had a higher representation of BLNP tech women. The 2020 Top Companies program collected and analyzed data on more than a half million U.S. technologists from 51 companies segmented by technical workforce size.

The Top Companies for Women Technologies report showed that women’s representation is growing. In terms of diversity training, 92.2% offered D&I training, and 56.9% had sponsorship programs. Sponsorship schemes matched a higher representation of Black and Latinx women.
Top Companies are selected based on a methodology where organizations submit data on representation, programs and policies, and workplace experiences. As a leader, ThoughtWorks scored in the top 25th percentile of the small workforce category, for companies with less than 1,000 technical employees.
